Our Team

We have a great group of people making Kangaroo Coffee hop. We take pride in our KC Workplace Culture. Our Baristas pour not only a tasty drink, but also their hearts into their work. It’s reflected in the relationships they foster and community they create. Our Operations and Community Engagement team know the business, literally, inside and out, paying attention to all the details while leading the company forward. Together, we bring out the best in each other and those that count on us for a bit of sunshine (or caffeine) every day.

Chief Executive Officer

DOUG HAMMOND

Doug brings nearly forty years of business leadership experience to Kangaroo Coffee in his role as Chief Executive Officer. A serial entrepreneur, he has launched and led an array of businesses, social enterprises, and not-for-profit organizations all committed to the common good. As a sustainable business consultant, he has designed strategic roadmaps, organizational models and operational platforms for a diverse array of local, regional, national and global entities.

He has also been integral to the founding, development and leadership of prominent national and international sustainable business associations including Business for Social Responsibility, Business Alliance for Local Living Economies and the American Sustainable Business Council. In addition he has served in leadership board positions for numerous education, environmental and social justice community organizations.

Initially, Doug began his work with Kangaroo Coffee in 2015 as a consultant and then fell in love with the company and the Springs. He assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and General Instigator in 2016. In his “free time” you’ll find him on the basketball court, golf course or best of all, goofing around with his two remarkable grandchildren while enjoying a fine cup of Kangaroo Coffee.

Operations Manager

KRISTYN EDWARDS

Kristyn joined the Kangaroo Coffee crew as a barista in the early summer of 2020. Her love for the company, the Roo family she has made, and the appreciation for the involvement in the local community contributed to her wanting to be a bigger part of the company. In September of 2021 she took on the role of Office and Inventory Assistant, and through her dedication she moved up in the ranks once again in February to become the Operations Manager. Kristyn was born and raised in Mississippi, but moved to the Springs from St. Louis in the summer of 2018. In her free time, she loves doing anything artistic, super nerdy, and spending quality time with her friends and nephew.

Operations Assistant

ADAM BUSTAMANTE

Adam believes that behind every tasty cup and happy customer, there’s a well-prepared team working in harmony. From boss to barista to buyer, he hopes to make everyone’s life that much easier and thinks that Kangaroo Coffee is a place most deserving of it. The Roo family is full of excellent people, and he’s determined to ensure that nobody goes without.

A Colorado native, Adam is an unapologetic nerd and enjoyer of the finer things in life; like petting cute animals every day and watching his favorite streamers ply their trade. Just don’t tell anyone he prefers the matcha.

Sustainability and Community Outreach

MOLLY GEARIN

Molly joined the Kangaroo Coffee team in July of 2022. This is Molly’s first time working in coffee, but she has long been aware of the magical power coffee can hold, capable of bringing friends, family, and communities together. While Missouri will always be home, she relocated to Colorado with her partner after finishing graduate school and has since been staring in awe at the mountains. When she’s not working, she is likely off exploring nature, playing board games, or spending time with family.

Fillmore Store Manager

HAILEY VALDEZ

Hailey is a friendly apartment zoo keeper that moved from Texas to Colorado to continue their 10 year pursuit in the coffee industry. They joined Kangaroo September 2021 for the purpose of connecting and serving the great humans of Colorado Springs through a local and organic company. Hailey assumed the Store Manager position at Fillmore shortly thereafter and hasn’t slowed down since…

When they’re not slinging coffee they are taking care of their 9 Guinea pigs, 2 cats, 4 birds, and a kitty named Luna while collecting rocks along the way.

8th Street Store Manager

OLIVIA SNJIDER

Olivia became part of the Kangaroo family at the end of summer 2019. She fell in love with it and was excited to become Store Manager and create a fun, loving team of friends at 8th St. She strives to make everyone’s day better, customers and baristas alike! Olivia loves making and drinking coffee and is so happy to be working at the perfect place to do so! When not at work, Olivia likes hanging out with friends, relaxing, and obsessing over her little dog, Willie.

New Center Point Store Manager

HALEY PETERSON

I moved from a small town in Eastern Kansas to Colorado when I was 12 years old, as soon as I saw the mountains and beautiful scenery I knew it was “home.” I’ve been working in gaming retail for almost 8 years, since I’m an avid gamer it was a nice way to share my love of video games, but I wanted to try something new that still involved something I love, coffee and making people’s day, just a little bit brighter. In my free time you can catch me watching a variety of films(a bit of a movie buff), gaming with my friends and family, or hanging out with my lovely but loud beagle, Clementine.

Hillside Coffee House Store Manager

LILY DIAZ

Lily moved to Colorado Springs from Las Vegas, Nevada in May of 2020 with her partner, and is here to stay. In 2017, after working in retail for some time, she decided to dip her toe into the coffee realm and has been in the field ever since.

To Lily, coffee is more than a yummy potion to get you going in the morning, it’s a vessel that helps her make connections with those that she meets. Nothing brings Lily more joy than to make someone’s day, not only with a warm latte, but with a warm smile as well.
